Area Apparatus

The Montessori Area Apparatus is a hands-on elementary geometry material that helps children understand how to calculate the area of different geometric shapes through concrete experimentation. The set includes two wooden boxes containing hardboard pieces that can be used to construct and deconstruct shapes such as rectangles, squares, and triangles. Each piece is printed with uniform squares, allowing the child to count and compare areas visually and intuitively.

By manipulating the pieces, children discover how shapes relate to one another, how area remains constant even when a figure is rearranged, and how standard area formulas naturally emerge from observation.
