Cubes on Vertical Dial

The Cubes on Vertical Dowel is a foundational Montessori material designed to support early fine motor development, hand control, and coordinated movement in infants and toddlers. This activity consists of a sturdy wooden base with a vertical dowel and three smooth blue cubes that the child places onto the dowel, one at a time.

By grasping each cube, aligning it with the dowel, and sliding it down, the child practices essential motor skills such as controlled release, precision grip, and bilateral coordination. The movement required to position the cube also encourages “crossing the midline,” an important neurological milestone that supports later skills in writing, reading, and everyday physical coordination.
